Anna Kaplan
Senator Anna Kaplan is serving in her 2nd term as a NY State Senator representing the 7th District. Born Anna Monahemi in Tabriz, Iran she was a child refugee who came to the US alone as part of an international effort to save Iran’s Jewish children. She is Chair of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Economic Development, & Small Business. She first ran for State Senate in 2018, calling for the passage of the Reproductive Health Act, sensible gun safety legislation, and increased economic development in Nassau County. She is the first political refugee and the first Iranian-American elected to the NY State Senate.
Charles Lavine
Charles David Lavine represents the 13th Assembly District. He serves as Chair of the Judiciary Committee and is a member of the Committees on Codes, Ethics & Guidance, Rules & Insurance. He helped pass the Scott J. Biegel Unfinished Receivers Act, banning the sale and possession of ‘ghost guns,’. He also sponsored legislation that will increase penalties for criminals who use high capacity firearm magazines and legislation that will help to halt the trafficking of illegal weapons into New York. He is President of the New York Chapter of the National Association of Jewish Legislators.
Lee E. Genser
Lee Genser has been an Assistant District Attorney with the Nassau County District Attorney’s office since September, 2012. He is currently assigned to the Narcotics, Firearms and Gangs Bureau as the Chief of the Firearms, Suppression, and Intelligence Unit. In 2018, Lee secured the first ever conviction in Nassau County for the crime of Operating as a Major Drug Trafficker, when David Ramis was sentenced to 25 years-life in prison after a nearly 3-month long trial.
Michelle Schimel
Michelle Schimel is the Director of Community Outreach for SONYMA (The State of NY Mortgage Authority), a division of NY State Homes & Community Renewal. She served as NY State Assemblywoman for the 16th Assembly District for five terms. Her signature issue was gun violence prevention. She was formerly co-chair of American State Legislators Against Gun Violence. She is currently on the Executive Board of the New Yorkers Against Gun Violence (NYAGV). In 1994 she co-founded the Long Island chapter with Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy.
