Herbert Tarr Institute for Adult Jewish Education
The Herbert Tarr North Shore Institute for Adult Jewish Education offers a diverse spectrum of courses designed to broaden your knowledge and understanding of our rich heritage. Sisterhood is excited to offer online learning for limited class offerings. These are noted by a green asterisk (* ). This will allow those with long work hours, baby sitting or physical challenges, to participate in Jewish learning conveniently and interactively. Sign up instructions will be emailed to you before each class provided you register. To register, download the Adult Education brochure and fill out the form. Sisterhood membership is required for this option along with class fees, if any. A FREE introductory single session for one single selected class is available for Non-Sisterhood members by email request.

TUESDAY
Advanced & Intermediate Conversational Hebrew
9:30 to 10:30 AM, begins September 17
Discuss the latest trends, political happenings, and even the latest movies by reading Israeli newspapers and other literary sources in Hebrew. Grammar is integrated into the curriculum.

Pirkei Avot
10:30 to 11:30 AM, begins September 17
The Ethics of the Fathers is a tractate in the Mishna which, unlike other tractates, does not deal with Halacha (the law) but focuses on ethical behavior taught by our sages throughout the generations. According to our sages, Derech eretz kadma L’Torah, meaning respectful behavior comes before the Torah. In other words, being a mensch is even more important than Torah study. Join us for this year-long Jewish ethical journey.

One Text, Many Truths – The Power of Midrash

Study select classic midrashim to add depth and meaning to understanding Torah. Explore contemporary scholars who are creating modern midrashim to expand the ideas of Torah in innovative ways.
