A Bridge to Belonging: An Evening with Author Hoangmai H. Pham

This Sukkot, step into the sukkah for an evening of story and connection. In the spirit of a holiday built on open, welcoming walls, we’re gathering to hear a personal journey of displacement, resilience and belonging — and to celebrate the many paths that lead Jews into community.

Meet the Author:
Hoangmai H. Pham — physician, national health policy leader, and debut memoirist based in Washington, D.C. As a young Vietnamese refugee, Mai lost her sense of safety and belonging when her family fled Saigon at the end of the war. Decades later, that early rupture resurfaced, unraveling into a reckoning with hidden trauma and family secrets that she chronicles in her debut memoir, Bridge from Saigon: A Viet-American Memoir of Family and Mind. She served as the first Chief Innovation Officer for Medicare and Medicaid and founded the Institute for Exceptional Care. Outside her healthcare work, she is an active member of her Jewish community.

The sukkah has open, fragile walls and a roof you can see the sky through — built to welcome everyone in. This event is open to the entire community, and we encourage every member to attend and take part in celebrating the many backgrounds, paths and stories that make up our congregation.
