As part of our annual Shavuot learning program (Tikkun Leil Shavuot) we’re asking you, our TBS family, to share a sentence from your favorite hero in the Tanach, Siddur, or Talmud. Your hero can be anyone — a patriarch, a prophet, a princess, or a rabbi, just to name a few. What’s important is that you explain how that quote from or about your hero connects to your experiences and outlook on life

This interactive session, which will begin at 8:15 PM on Thursday, May 21, is an amazing opportunity to learn a variety of Torah and get to know each other better! The session is open to teens and adults of all ages. Here are a few guidelines:

• Keep it under five: Aim to speak for a maximum of five minutes. We want as many people as possible to speak in this session.
• Give context: While we will provide source sheets with all the selected verses in Hebrew and English, you’ll need to provide some context about the author/speaker and the narrative.
• Make it personal: Don’t forget to say why this sentence about your hero resonates with you. Share a story from your life that took on new meaning for you after reading the verse.

The evening begins with Services at 7:30 PM. After the interactive session, there will be cheesecake, ice cream and two consecutive sessions led by Rabbi David Bockman: Which does Shavuot celebrate? Giving the Torah or Receiving the Torah, and a group discussion on a Jewish science fiction story: Planet of the Jews.
