Selichot
- This event has passed.
Join the annual communal Selichot Program & Service, with Temple Beth Sholom, Temple Beth Torah, Old Westbury Hebrew Congregation and Shelter Rock Jewish Center.
8 PM: Havdalah Service and refreshments, followed by a presentation by acclaimed Haaretz reporter, Lee Yaron, author of 10/7 100 Human Stories. Her highly anticipated book chronicles the massacre that ignited the Israel-Hamas war. Hear Yaron talk with us face-to-face about the stories of survivors and families who suffered loss on that fateful day. The work takes a fresh approach, offering answers through the stories of everyday people who are outside the political arena, but who have lived tenuously in close proximity to the Gaza border for decades.
When accepting an invitation to speak at our communal Selichot Service, Yaron wrote:
One of the main reasons I wrote this book was as an attempt to ask for forgiveness from the victims of the massacre, to apologize for their fate, and to do something for them—the only thing I could do, which was to make them alive again on paper. I can’t think of a more appropriate occasion than Selichot Service to speak about this.
