Martin Buber: The Way of Man

Martin Buber is one of the most consequential modern Jewish philosophers. His work: I and Thou had an enormous impact on the lives it has touched. It has become one of the most influential books of our time. But it is not an easy book to understand. In many ways Buber’s very brief “The Way of Man,”  a 40 page re-telling of six shore Hasidic tales and a discussion of their meaning is a much more accessible way into Buber’s philosophy. This book is always a favorite among those who spend time with it. Many students tell me years after reading this book that it has changed their life and they go back and read it again and again.

Buber is, I believe, especially relevant as we struggle with the implications of isolation, quarantine and the physical distance that now separates us. Buber was all about closeness and presence. Never has he been more relevant than today.

I hope you will join us – please send me an email at: alanblucas@gmail.com and I will send you a pdf of the book and a short reading assignment.

This class will continue every Tuesday and Thursday at 3:30 pm. If you missed our first class last week and would like to catch up or review – you can see a recording of the 1st class by clicking here.
